Archon Classic Torrent Download [Torrent]

Updated: Dec 8, 2020

About This Game Inspired by chess, but adding combat that YOU control, Archon was the original Battle Chess. You must try to outmaneuver your opponent using teams of fantasy creatures or monsters in this epic struggle of Light and Dark. On the chess board, when you challenge a piece, you are teleported into a Combat Arena where you fight in REAL-TIME until only the victor emerges to claim the square on the chess board. Conquer your opponent by defeating all of their pieces on the chess board or claim all the Power Squares for a quick victory! You can play Free-For-All mode, where it's everyone for themselves, or play using teams and gang up on your opponents pieces in battle (2 vs. 1.) Archon:Classic can be played using USB controllers (the best way) or with keyboard and mouse. First developed in 1983, Archon quickly became a hit and instant classic because of it's unique combination of action and strategic gameplay. We've recreated it to play just like the original, but we've added enhancements for today's gamer. So grab some friends and experience the classic game that started the Action/Strategy genre. AI never attacks the player so completing some missions within allowed number of turns is not possible. Otherwise, it's an ok remake of the original game, although I see no logic behind the movement speed determined for each battle.. Just like the Commodore 64 version. Awesome!. So I learned there is a version of Archon Classic available. I have been playing this 25 years ago on the Commodore 64, and it’s available for Steam. A short purchase and test play later: this actually works. Slightly more modernised graphics, if you care (or true old style pixels, if you do not like that), and the dynamics of the gameplay have been preserved. New play modes have been added.Very worthwhile, even if you do not know the original. In Archon, you play an epic battle between light and dark.On the strategy board you move pieces like in chess, only that some fields are permanently light and dark, and others are changing affiliation with the phases of the moon. Light pieces are stronger on light fields, dark pieces on dark fields. If you strike a piece, the game switches to an arcade battle arena, in which the pieces fight each other in melee or ranged combat. Each side has unique pieces with unique, but balanced abilities.Additional complications are two spellcasters (one per side), no-magic zones and power points, which can heal pieces, but are also a second venue for winning. The gameplay is a nice combination of board game strategics and classic 80ies arcade battle.. A fun little time waster, providing a simple to grasp system with great depth and variation through the many different boards. The units are smart, balanced, leading to fantastically tense gameplay on occasions. However, the games style, taking a board game and a real time arena fight make it unconventional as board game style videogames go, and I would really say it appeals more to the side of me that likes turn based RPGs and old arcade and micros games. Its a worthwhile buy in any case if you want to spend a few minutes thinking and slaying in equal measures.. I was a fan of Archon on the Commodore 64. *gasp* This is a great flashback to the days of strategic arcade gameplay and chess like timing. It's affordable and you know you want to ..... I played the♥♥♥♥♥♥out of this with my brother on NES. It was ugly and confusing and I honestly have no idea how we figured it out because it was a rental without a manual and it was the days before the internet obviously. But it reminds me of a long gone time when the only thing there was to do was ♥♥♥♥ around with a game and try to wring any fun you possibly could out of it before you had to take it back to the video store.Anyway, it's kind of like chess but you have to take control of certain squares on the board, and there are little mini battle arenas that happen when two pieces end up on the same square, so it is completely conceivable that the equivalent of a pawn could take down the equivalent of a queen, but it's not extremely likely. Each piece has their own abilities and you can cast spells that heal your pieces or revive them, among other things. It's weird, but it works.Oddly, it still holds up. I'd probably rather just play chess at this stage in my life, but this is not a bad game in the slightest. The production values are a little lacking on this update, but I am pretty sure it was made by fans who loved the game way back when and wanted to do it justice. There are alternate boards, a campaign mode (weird? but just little mini challenges against the AI) and multiplayer. It's a fun game, but I don't know if most folks would enjoy it without that vague haze of nostalgia lingering over them.. If you're old enough the remember the Commodore 64......
